I’ve heard it suggested that the map of Great Britain looks like an old lady riding a pig! It’s a bit of a stretch, I admit, but if you think of Wales as the pig’s head, you might just see it. Much more familiar is the idea of Italy being the shape of a boot. The heel of that boot is the region of Apulia, which is also the name of a new Italian restaurant in Smithfield, I shot recently for designer, Matteo Bianchi. Step inside, and you are whisked back to a simple rustic vision of southern Italy before the Dolce Vita. Rough plaster walls, wooden lathe ceilings and thoughtfully chosen bric-a-brac, including an old bicycle, black and white photos and a wall mounted telephone serving as a menu holder, all help to set the scene.
After the shoot, I was served one of their speciality thin and crispy pizzas, which I wholeheartedly recommend. Buon Appetito!
