I’ve known Katie Wallis since the late eighties, when we both studied at Brighton Polytechnic, as it then was. She was studying illustration, but her output since has been much broader, also covering, interior design, mural painting, textile design and printmaking. Now living in Bristol, with her husband Simon, and two teenage kids, she has a thriving business reproducing her wonderful designs as cushions, lampshades and other decorative household items. The first time I saw her very distinctive home, I knew I wanted to shoot it. It’s like a working laboratory where her colourful imagination expresses itself all over the walls, ceilings and floors. It was a joy to shoot it, with Charlotte Packer on hand to do some expert styling. We were delighted that the Observer magazine liked it so much, they featured it last weekend. As is often the case, there wasn’t really enough space in the magazine to fully do this house justice, so here’s the complete set of pics.
