I heard it said that Vauxhall is the new Knightsbridge. While this may be a tad exaggerated, even by property marketing standards, there are elements of truth. Perhaps more accurate would be Vauxhall is the new Mayfair, for the simple reason that the American embassy will shortly be locating from Grosvenor Square to Nine Elms. The new building designed by Kieran Timberlake Architects appears to be nearing completion, and all around it apartment blocks are sprouting. Although the area is still pretty bleak, the area’s reinvention is happening at a cracking pace. Overlooking the new embassy is a development, named, unsurprisingly, Embassy Gardens, and back in the summer I shot one of its impressive penthouses for design client: David Phillips.
